123 Mike Iaconelli Auctions Goatee for Fishin' with a Mission Charity
How you doing? I'm Mike Iaconelli and I'm here to retire my beard. My lucky goatee here has been around for over a year and a half. It's really helped me in my fishing, in my confidence, but it's time to cut it off.
And I want to cut this thing off and this is going to sound a little strange, but we're going to cut it off and sell it. We're going to put it up for auction, it's going to be on my website, more...
November 24th, 2009 -Mike Iaconelli Berkley Beast and Tru-Tungsten Weights for Largemouth in Cabbage Patches
Last regular season stop on the bass tour, Lake Oneida. You know Lake Oneida, one of my favorite lakes in the country, going into it really excited. I ended up not having a great tournament there but I did catch fish. I caught enough limits to get me to the post season.
So let's talk about what I did at Oneida. I got to Oneida and it was really a weird deal because there were roaming smallmouths, schooling smallmouths, I never found those. And then there more...
November 9th, 2009 -Mike Iaconelli Iaconelli Modifying Two Part Skirt Jigs to Make Finesse Jig on Mississippi River
The next stop was the Mississippi River out of Fort Madison. I'm going to tell you, talk about a tough tournament, you know this was a really tough one. You had high, muddy water, you had fish that were spread out, and you were coming off of a major flood so this was a real tough event.
I decided to fish backwaters in this event. You have main river and backwater and I decided to fish backwater, I locked one time up and I found the backwater more...
October 26th, 2009 -Mike Iaconelli LaserLure Crankbait and Shakey Head with 10" Power Worms on Ledges and Shell Beds
Next stop on the Bass tour was Kentucky Barkley Lake out at Paris, Tenn. This tournament was all about the ledge bite. Post-spawn fish going to summer time pattern, fish moving on the main river ledges and the creek ledges, so fish on the drops. Not any ledges and it's important to realize that certain little spots hold those fish on the ledges. And those little spots were shell beds. Shell and Mussel mounds really were the key areas on those ledges.
There were more...
October 16th, 2009 -Mike Iaconelli The Closer: Bass Anglers Who Close Out Victories By Paul Streg
Certain anglers possess a special ability, an uncanny sense, for closing out victories.
New York Yankee Manager Joe Torre walks out to the mound in the bottom of the ninth. He calls upon his trusted relief pitcher, Mariano Rivera, to close the game. Torre's team leads by a single run with two runners on and no one out. Forty thousand opposing fans begin a rhythmic chant in hopes of rattling the seasoned reliever. With a nonchalant poise that defies those in attendance, Rivera takes his place at the mound. He toes the rubber, hunches over, and focuses on more...
March 5th, 2008 -Mike Iaconelli Industrial Bass Fishing Local places like the Skukill River, the Delaware River in downtown Philadelphia, and the Cooper River in Pennsauken, all harbor an amazing population of fish. Species like bass, perch, catfish, stripers, and panfish thrive in these unusual industrial settings.
Both state and federal programs have helped clean up the rivers significantly in the last ten years. Cleaner and clearer water have resulted in better spawns and a higher fish population. The cleaned up water has also allowed native aquatic vegetation to return.
Just because these industrial settings look different, doesn't mean you need to change your tactics. Look for the same more...
December 30th, 2006 -Mike Iaconelli My Deadly Top Five Bass Fishing Lures One of the questions I'm most often asked is "what lures do I need in my tackle box to catch fish in any situation." Well with the huge array of choices out there today, it's hard to narrow down the choices. But if I had to pick just five for South Jersey waters here they are:
1. Worm - Probably the most versatile bait ever produced. Plastic worms can be rigged in many different ways. They can fished with or without a weight. They also come in a million different shapes and sizes. But my favorites are the 4 and more...
November 27th, 2006 -Mike Iaconelli Bass and the Dragonfly Pattern I learned about this pattern many years ago while fishing in the many shallow, weedy, cedar water lakes I grew up fishing. It's hard to imagine, but in South Jersey, a good portion of the diet of a growing bass in the summertime are dragon flys. I've also seen this pattern develop in many other parts of the country, including many northern glacial lakes and the shallow weedy waters in Florida. When I first saw bass leaping 2 to 3 feet out of the water chasing airborne dragon flys, I was amazed. But, I was also determined to come up more...
May 13th, 2006 -Mike Iaconelli Bass Tournament Preparation The best way for me to coach myself for an important tournament is to prepare myself for a tournament. Preparation has always been one of my strong points. By using a two-step preparation method I have developed, I enter new bodies of water and tournaments with extreme confidence. My two-step preparation method is as follows:
At Home Research + On The Water Fine Tuning = Sweet Spots
I. The first part to this method is what I call 'at home research'.
This part of the preparation stage happens way before the tournament and happens before you ever get to the lake. This is more...
April 7th, 2006 -Mike Iaconelli Pork Fishing Tips 1. Double Your Chances
To create a unique jig that the fish have never seen, add two pieces of pork to your favorite jig instead of one. Add two pieces of Uncle Josh Pork (#11), in opposite directions, the first fat side up and the second fat side down. This will add more bulk to your jig. It will create a different vibration and flapping motion. It will also dramatically decrease the rate of fall.
2. Drop Shot Pork
An awesome bait to use on the new drop shotting technique that is sweeping the nation is a piece of pork. A piece of more...
