LaserLure Crankbait and Shakey Head with 10" Power Worms on Ledges and Shell Beds

Next stop on the Bass tour was Kentucky Barkley Lake out at Paris, Tenn. This tournament was all about the ledge bite. Post-spawn fish going to summer time pattern, fish moving on the main river ledges and the creek ledges, so fish on the drops. Not any ledges and it's important to realize that certain little spots hold those fish on the ledges. And those little spots were shell beds. Shell and Mussel mounds really were the key areas on those ledges.

There were 2 baits I used in the Kentucky Lake Tournament. One obviously was a crankbait, you know a crankbait is probably the best all around bait ever to fish on those ledges. You can throw it out there, it dives deep and the bill will actually dig into that shell and you'll be able to feel it. So I used the LaserLure in the Citrus pattern caught a lot of my fish on that. And then my cleanup bait, you know, normally people throw a 10-inch worm Berkley power worm, a 10-inch worm and I threw that. Normally people throw a Texas rig. In that tournament, I threw it a little bit different style. I actually threw it on a jig head.

You know, when you think about shakey head fishing, normally you think about light line, spinning rod, little tiny worms. But you could take a 10-inch Berkley Power worm and you can fish it on a jig head and what that does is it lets the bait stand differently than a normal 10-inch worm. So I was taking that normal Power Worm, I was biting about an inch of it off and I would just take it and put it on that screw lock head. This is thehead by Picasso by TruTungsten. And I would set it up just like a normal shakey head and instead of that worm laying on the bottom, it stood up real nice, stood up high and it was perfect for those shell mounds. Kentucky Lake Post-spawn summer time fishing shell beds on the ledges.
